devops lead

  • Malleshwaram, Bengaluru / hybrid
  • full-time
  • 8+ years in DevOps, SRE or infrastructure roles, including 2+ years leading a team

We're looking for a DevOps Lead to own the technical direction of our infrastructure and CI/CD practices while managing a team of DevOps engineers. This role sits between hands-on execution and team leadership: you'll be expected to make architectural calls, unblock the team on hard problems, and drive infrastructure modernization initiatives, while also owning delivery timelines and team growth.

We currently run production workloads on Docker Swarm and are actively migrating to Kubernetes; this role will need to keep Swarm stable and running through that transition while supporting the migration itself.

key responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of DevOps engineers: assign work, review technical decisions, and ensure timely delivery of infrastructure initiatives
  • Own the architecture and roadmap for cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure, including compute, networking, storage, and security
  • Operate and maintain our existing Docker Swarm cluster in production: ensuring stability, handling deployments, and troubleshooting issues
  • Handling the transition to Kubernetes from Docker Swarm
  • Drive containerization and orchestration strategy, including a structured, low-risk migration from Docker Swarm to Kubernetes without disrupting live services
  • Own CI/CD strategy and implementation, ensuring pipelines are reliable, secure, and support fast release cycles across both Swarm and Kubernetes as the transition progresses
  • Champion Infrastructure as Code practices (Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent) across the team
  • Establish and enforce change management, configuration management, and operational practices that support audit and compliance requirements (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2)
  • Own production reliability: lead incident response, drive root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures
  • Define monitoring, alerting, and observability standards across services
  • Manage on-call rotations, escalation processes, and post-incident reviews
  • Partner with Engineering, QA, Security, and Compliance teams to align infrastructure practices with organizational goals
  • Mentor team members technically, conduct performance reviews, and support hiring for the team
  • Evaluate and introduce new tools, platforms, and practices to improve infrastructure maturity

required qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in DevOps/SRE/Infrastructure roles, with at least 2+ years leading or managing a team
  • Hands-on production experience with Docker Swarm: cluster management, service deployment, scaling, and troubleshooting (this is essential, as we run Swarm in production today)
  • Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration in production environments
  • Prior experience migrating workloads from Docker Swarm (or a comparable orchestrator) to Kubernetes is a strong advantage: ability to plan and execute a phased migration without downtime
  • Demonstrated experience managing infrastructure across both AWS and Azure
  • Proven track record owning CI/CD pipelines and release engineering practices end-to-end (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, or similar)
  • Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code and Configuration Management (Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent)
  • Solid understanding of networking, security, and cost-optimization practices in cloud environments
  • Experience owning production incident response and driving root cause analysis
  • Strong scripting/automation skills (Bash, Python, or similar)
  • Strong people-leadership skills: mentoring, prioritization, performance management, and cross-functional communication

preferred qualifications

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or equivalent certification
  • Experience with GitOps workflows (ArgoCD, Flux) and progressive delivery (Argo Rollouts)
  • Exposure to compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001 or SOC 2, particularly around change management and audit evidence
  • Experience with message queues, caching, and database infrastructure (RabbitMQ, Redis, MariaDB, MongoDB, or similar)
  • Experience building or scaling a DevOps team from the ground up
